Painting, drawing and relief
Whilst working in relief, I have aimed to intensify form by the manipulation of
the colour of shadow. Changing light is an important component of my work as
is the “ edge ” which in pictorial space is something that defines such things as
structure, space, depth and reality.
Through my practice I aim to explore the stability between instinct and
experimentation and it is often through analysis of pattern, shape, colour,
texture and the elements of nature, that transmutation (abstraction) of form
occurs. I find that working in oil and oil-glaze gives the quality and depth of
colour I am looking for in the painted surface.
